Just one month ago, at the smartstore in Saint Denis, Mireille Helou, director of Orange Reunion Mayotte, and Kevin Allamelou, president of the GeekAli association, handed over the Batali game prizes. It was at the GeekAli show held on August 11 and 12, 2018 that the winners walked away with these awards.
The very first geek show in Reunion Island
On Saturday, August 11, 2018, the first GeekAli exhibition opened its doors at the Parc des Expositions in Saint-Denis. A big first for gamers and the geek community on Sister Island, this show welcomed over 5,000 people. And there was something for everyone: video games, cosplay, Japanese music, manga, among others. This event was also an opportunity for the curious to come and discover this universe.
What is the GeekAli show?
Fans of video games, manga or even the Star Wars universe and unicorns all got together for the GeekAli! But what is it? It’s simply a lounge set up for geeks who want to share their passion with their friends, tribe or guild. Thus, on August 11 and 12, 2018 at the Nordèv in Saint-Denis, it is a whole program that has been developed, not to mention tournaments and competitions.
The prizes won during this exhibition
From video games to a free cosplay stage + a cosplay contest, as well as animations and prizes to win! That sums up this show. And on the side of the prizes put in play :
– Samuel Imary-Issarambe wins a 4K TV.
– Frederic Isambert leaves with a 150€ voucher.
– Damien Collet wins Gamer headset.
Orange networks at the service of e-sports
The gifts were presented by Mireille Helou, director of Orange Reunion Mayotte, and Kevin Allamelou, president of the GeekAli association. Namely, since 2017, Orange has supported e-sports through several events. In particular, there was the Africa Game Show where the company sent a young man from Reunion Island, who won. Also of note is the presence of professional game artist Kayane at the Cité des Arts in October 2017. Then, very recently, it is through its partnership with the GeekAli show that the Orange networks have shown their support to this discipline.
Contribute to the development of e-sports
According to Kevin Allamelou, president of the GeekAli association: “I am happy that Orange is at the forefront of innovation and is positioning itself strongly in the development of e-sports. It’s a sector with a bright future and real talent”. For her part, Mireille Helou, director of Orange Reunion Mayotte, maintains that it is important for Orange “to be a pioneer partner of e-sports in Reunion”.

E-sport is simply the competitive practice of video games. The best players compete in individual and team competitions. This practice has grown considerably in recent years, thanks in particular to smartphones and the improvement of networks and speeds.
Today, the video game industry is the second cultural industry in France after publishing. Its turnover is constantly growing and is estimated at 4.3 billion euros in 2017. Moreover, it generates many new professions (players, agents, commentators, influencers, etc.).
