The list of winners of the Startupper of the Year challenge by Total is now known. Designating three winners and a “Coup de Cœur Féminin” in each country, this challenge was organized simultaneously in 55 countries, including 37 in Africa.

The 2018-2019 Startupper of the Year Challenge by Total has come to an end. Held simultaneously in 55 countries, including 37 in Africa, 11 in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, 4 in the Americas and 3 in Europe, the list of winners has been announced. Thissecond edition reaffirms Total’s commitment to supporting the socio-economic development of the countries in which the Group operates around the world. Indeed, franchising contributes locally to the reinforcement of the social fabric, through the support given to the most innovative entrepreneurs, in the realization of their project. Here is the list of winners in the Mascarene Islands.
The 3 winners of the Startupper of the Year challenge by Total in Mauritius are :
Maurice
1st Prize: Lalita Purbhoo-Junggee, Recycle Me Project
Her project consists of making biodegradable sanitary napkins for women, based on bamboo fiber and corn.
This plastic-free, chlorine-free, fragrance-free product is not only good for your health but also allows every woman to contribute to the protection of the environment. In addition, she also received the “Coup de cœur féminin” label, a new feature of this 2018-2019 edition to support female entrepreneurs.
2nd prize: Jade Li, Katapult Project
His project, Katapult, consists in introducing children to robotics and coding by developing learning methods based on games, storytelling and real applications.
These workshops help to stimulate creativity and innovation among children at an early age so that they have the skills to find innovative solutions to societal problems.
3rd Prize: Diane Nuteau, The Creative Brainstorming Project
His project consists in accompanying startups and SMEs in their strategic thinking during a visual, auditory and interactive workshop.
These sessions give entrepreneurs the opportunity to have an external vision of their company, allowing them to establish a strategic plan for the progress of their business.
These young women entrepreneurs will receive financial assistance to develop their project. The amount is Rs 750,000 for thefirst prize. A personalized accompaniment from SME Mauritius and a communication campaign to give visibility to their project is also on the agenda.
Madagascar
1st prize: Andrianaivo Tsimbina, Julia Ketchup
On the Big Island, the Julia Ketchup project, by Andrianaivo Tsimbina, won the gold medal. The project’s slogan is “Zero waste, responsible consumption and production!” The aim is to transform agricultural overproduction into quality, tasty, healthy and affordable food products, ensuring income stability and outlets for farmers. The start-up also won the2nd prize for the start-up employing the most women.

The 3 winners of the Startupper of the Year Challenge by Total Reunion are :
1st prize: Aurélie Basquaise, Luckid’Star
Luckid’Star is a local online shop for trendy and adapted clothing for disabled and sick children (from 4 to 18 years old).
2nd prize: Constance Idrac, Story Enjoy
In Reunion Island, every year, 31,500 children are hospitalized for long-term illnesses and during this stay they suffer from forced isolation for 75% of their stay. Let’s give them moments of joy and comfort!
3rd prize: Sabrina Ferrere, Fam’îlHYzen
Fam’îlHYzen will be a parental wellness center offering the first night nursery and the first bougeothèque in Reunion Island. Baby yoga, shows or a philosophy café with workshops on caring parenting will be offered to families.
50,000 registrations for this second edition
This second edition of the Startupper of the Year Challenge by Total received nearly 50,000 entries, including more than 15,000 complete applications. Thus, 825 finalists had the chance to present their project in front of a jury of experts and 165 winners were awarded prizes.
Thefirst winner from each country will have the privilege of having his or her project presented to the world’s grand juries in charge of choosing 6 “Grand Winners” for all 55 countries.
In addition, the Women’s Favourite, meanwhile, will be invited to Paris from April 13 to 19, 2019. During one week, she will participate in training sessions in an incubator and will live a female entrepreneurial experience. She will also participate in the “Journée de la Femme Digitale”, an event on digital and female empowerment.
