Madagascar participated in the Africa 2018 Forum and the Bold Leadership and Collective Engagement Forum. It is an initiative of EDBM, an organization in charge of facilitating and promoting investments. This approach should open up new horizons for the Big Island.
Renowned investors at the Africa 2018 Forum
It is through the EDBM (Economic Development Board of Madagascar) that the Big Island was present at this event. This third edition of the Africa Forum took place from 8 to 10 December 2018 in Sharm-El-Sheik, Egypt. Madagascar has actively participated in this continental event. Its mission was to promote investments in the Big Island. This economic event brings together each year more than a thousand leaders from the business world, including renowned industrialists and investors. The President of the Republic has also stated that “Madagascar’s participation in the Africa 2018 Forum has confirmed the continuity of the State in Madagascar, and that as the current President of COMESA we have assumed our normal role in relation to this great event.
Positive economic spin-offs for the island
The Africa 2018 Forum aims to provide a platform for participants to promote intra-African investment and trade. Moreover, it is a high-level gathering of the country’s economic actors and political leaders. Moreover, it is a golden opportunity to present to investors the business and investment opportunities in Madagascar. These include six priority areas that the EDBM is working on.
These include agribusiness, infrastructure and energy, mining, light industry and especially tourism. It must be said that the EDBM has spared no effort in terms of promotion in order to attract new investors, particularly in the hotel industry. Positive economic spin-offs have been achieved. As a proof, high standing hotel groups such as, are particularly interested in Madagascar and its tourist potential. Among them are the Golden Tulip, Hyatt, Sun Resort and Movenpick Groups.
Opening up to new horizons thanks to the Africa 2018 Forum
Thanks to its participation in this forum, Madagascar is opening up to new horizons. According to Andry Ravalomanda, Director General of EDBM, this will be an opportunity to strengthen the competence of his department. Indeed, it should be known that this forum brings together about a thousand business leaders and executives in the continent each year. These include decision makers at the corporate level, leading financiers and industrialists.
Bold Leadership and Collective Engagement Forum held in parallel
In addition, the Bold Leadership and Collective Engagement Forum was held at the same location on December 8 and 9. It was intended to promote intra-African investment. A variety of activities were scheduled, including roundtable discussions. These meetings provided an opportunity for key decision-makers from the business and public sectors to discuss critical financial and investment issues. Expert presentations and B2B engagement opportunities enabled EDBM to win over new investors.
