Madagascar: ESTI opened its doors yesterday

École Supérieure des Technologies de l'Information

To meet the demand for computer engineers, the Higher School of Information Technology (ESTI) opened its doors yesterday, Tuesday, December 13, in Antanimena. This school of computer engineering of the group of operators in information technology and communication (Goticom) aims to train high-level technicians, intended to fill the lack of computer engineers that is rampant on the island.

” For the development of the ICT sector, it is necessary to consolidate the training of young people. Companies currently spend a considerable amount of money on staff training. These are the reasons why this school project remains a priority for the grouping ” explained Jean-Luc Rajaona, former director.

This school aims to welcome 500 students each year, and to crown 100 graduates in bachelor and 100 graduates in master at the end. Following a conclusive feasibility study, conducted in 2014, ESTI was finally able to see the light of day with the support of various partners including the French Development Agency, which granted a 2 million euro funding.

During a meeting with the media at the CCIA in Analakely as part of the launch of the school, last December 6, Jean-Luc Rajaona had indicated that “the inadequacy of the supply of work, salaries in the IT professions tend to increase regularly. Currently, Madagascar is still in the average, if compared to other countries, but if the current trend continues, we will no longer be competitive in the provision of ICT services.

GOTICOM

GOTICOM or “Groupement des Opérateurs des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication” is a private association, created in 2000 to boost the information and communication technologies sector in Madagascar.

The objective of the grouping is to

1- Infrastructure and regulatory improvements

Thanks to the dynamism of the ICT sector in Madagascar, the laws governing the sector have become obsolete. GOTICOM works in partnership with the various institutions to redefine the texts and adapt them to the needs of the development of the sector

2- Improving the quality of training

Even if the human resources exist in Madagascar, a lot of work remains to be done to produce quality technicians. To this end, Goticom works closely with private training centres such as the ERD or the BIG to adapt their training offer.

3- Popularization

Building human resources in ICTs cannot be done without a good outreach programme, and without creating interest among the trainable public.

4- External and internal communication

Since 2003, Goticom has entered into partnerships with associations in the Indian Ocean, notably : ARTIC in Reunion, the National Computer Board based in Mauritius, and the India-Mauritius Chamber of Commerce, in order to create a synergy between each country of the Indian Ocean and to strengthen the regional offer.
