Oukitel has announced the release of its WP19, the smartphone with the largest battery in the world. The device would have an autonomy of almost a week.
In a crowded market where all phone models end up looking the same, the Chinese brand Oukitel has decided to give its new smartphone an outstanding autonomy. Indeed, the Oukitel WP19 has a huge battery, with a capacity of 21,000 mAh. According to the manufacturer, this will give it an autonomy of several days, or even a whole week.
A dream autonomy
Oukitel states that its WP19 could last a maximum of one week with its battery. The phone could run for 36 hours of video playback, 123 hours of music playback, 122 hours of calling and up to 2,252 hours of standby time (just over three months). Better than a generator. To achieve this feat, the manufacturer has ingeniously merged a “classic” phone with an external battery (or power banks). The WP19 can also be used as a backup battery, to charge your headphones, your connected watch, or even another phone! To recharge its battery, the smartphone needs four hours using a power of 27 W. One hour of charging is equivalent to one day of use.
But given its specifics, we can’t expect this phone to be thin: the device is 29 mm thick and weighs 570 g! In fact, according to its manufacturer, the Oukitel WP19 was designed to survive extreme environments. The ideal companion for adventure lovers and globetrotters, in short.
Respectable characteristics
But in any case, the audience targeted by Oukitel with this unusual smartphone is clearly not the customers of Apple or Samsung. The device seems rather intended for those who prioritize autonomy over any other criteria. But of course, this does not prevent it from having more than respectable features. 4G compatible only, it is equipped with a chip Mediatek Helio G95, from 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (expandable with an SD card), a screen of 6.78-inch IPS LCD panel (with a comfortable FHD+ definition of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an impressive resolution of 388 pixels per inch) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, ensuring a good display fluidity. On the photo side, there are three modules on the back, with a 64MP main sensor, a 20MP night sensor and a 2MP macro sensor, and a 16MP front camera. The whole thing is completed with NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, a fingerprint sensor on the side, all running Android 12, with all Google services.
While the phone is already available on AliExpress for $600, Oukitel says its phone is expected to launch worldwide in June. Whether it’s a device you’d actually find useful or not, it’s still interesting to see that it’s possible today to build a smartphone with such a tenacious battery… even if to be able to use it, you’ll have to be willing to sport a brick-sized device.
