Computer research at the heart of the 5th edition of the international conference "INDIA

The fields of technology and computing are vast and constantly changing, so it’s hard to know what to expect! Professionals in the field therefore advocate research to understand how this sphere works. With this in mind, the University of the Mascarene Islands, in collaboration with Springer, an American publishing house, organized the 5the Information System Design And Intelligent Application” (INDIA) international conference. The event took place from 19 to 21 July at the Intercontinental Resort Mauritius.

Recent years have been marked by the emergence of technology. The 21st century is described as a connected era, where almost everything is digitized! Terms such as Artificial Intelligence and IoT (Internet of Things) have found their place in the common vocabulary. It must be recognized that the field of technology opens up countless fields of possibilities, especially in the professional world. Nevertheless, being in constant evolution, today’s data quickly becomes obsolete, pushing for a continuous research to leave no room for the uncertain, worse, for the unknown.

Thus, the University of the Mascarene Islands in collaboration with Springer, a prestigious American publishing house specialized in research journals, organized the 5th edition of INDIA (NDLR Information System Design And Intelligent Application), which took place from July 19 to 21 at the Intercontinental Resort Hotel with research as the main topic.

Research at the centre of academic concerns!

Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring! If we cannot say anything about the evolution of our society, we can anticipate it. In the field of computing, by studying how it works, we can understand what it can offer in the future. Research becomes a necessity to know how the technology works and even the opportunities it offers. Research being a primordial aspect in the academic development of the students and the development of the teachers of the University of Mascareignes, the latter participated in the organization of this conference.

“At the University of the Mascarene Islands, we emphasize research as an academic tool for both our students and our faculty. It is an important element in the development of scientific thinking that adds to the body of knowledge. Research is not only essential to economic and social development, but also to the mission of our university. It is the basis of knowledge and the source of new ideas, methods, techniques and innovations in a wide range of disciplinary and multidisciplinary fields,” said Dr Radhakrishna Somanah, Director General of the institution.

Progress again and again…

Lifting the veil of mystery that surrounds computing is the goal that several researchers around the world have set themselves! During this international conference inaugurated on July 19 by the Minister of Education, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Human Resources, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the researchers present were able to unveil the conclusions of their work. Advances and developments in computer technology were also on the agenda. Research papers were subsequently indexed and published in the research journal “Advance in intelligent systems and computing (AISC) series, Springer.”

About 90 research papers were received in the framework of this conference, including the submission of some papers (25 papers) by Mauritian researchers, 15 of which were submitted by those of the Université des Mascareignes.

“Research is essential for universities, because it not only allows teachers and researchers to improve their knowledge, but also to encourage the students’ quest for knowledge. In the end, the whole university progresses through research,” says Prof. B. Annappa of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering. Annappa from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Engineering, Karnataka, India, who spoke about the importance of this conference for research teachers.

This was supported by Professor Binod Kumar Pattanayak of the Institute of Technical Education and Research at Siksha O Anusandhan University in India, who was also one of the organizers of the event. “Two years ago, we set up an exchange program with the University of Mascareignes to encourage research at this institution. We can already see a change of mindset on the part of the teacher-researchers. This conference is one more platform for them to not only present their work, but also meet their peers and exchange on the future of computer technologies,” he said.
