Cyberthreats: Emtel launches into IT security!

The Internet may be a technological tool, but it does not guarantee absolute security for its users! Cyber threats are targeting many companies around the world and Mauritius is not left out. It is against this backdrop that Emtel, in partnership with Palo Alto Networks, hosted a workshop at Emtel World and Hennessy Park in Ebony for discussion.

For many years now, the way we communicate has changed significantly, largely due to technological advances. With the emergence of the internet, our entire daily lives, whether at home or at work, have been redefined. In view of the many advances made thanks to the web, we can only applaud.

Nevertheless, we too often forget the other side of the coin! The internet does not guarantee absolute security… Information leaks around the world, cyber attacks, hacking prove that the internet, at least its use, is not completely reliable.

With the rise of cyber threats to businesses around the world, local companies need reliable solutions to protect their computer systems from malware and cyber attacks. With this in mind, Emtel, in partnership with Palo Alto Networks, a global leader in IT security, held a workshop at Emtel World and Hennessy Park in Ebony.

This partnership initiated in 2016 has positioned Emtel as a security services and solutions provider. Together, the two companies are on a mission to provide a range of solutions for local businesses to use the cloud and other technology tools to access their data.

A partnership at the service of Mauritians

The security and protection of computer data is essential, not to say vital, to businesses. The objective of this workshop was to raise awareness of the fact that no one is safe from a cyber attack.

“Mauritius is not immune to cyber attacks and it is important that local businesses know how to protect themselves and the privacy of their data. Emtel will be organising such workshops on a regular basis to show our customers the solutions available to help them operate better,” said Kresh Goomany, Director of Operations at Emtel.

Local businesses are using the cloud and other IT tools to access their data anytime and anywhere in the world. However, this sensitive data is not safe from malicious software such as “ransomware”.

During this first workshop, four key areas were presented to IT managers and professionals: “Protecting users, applications and data”; “Securing a network and endpoints”; “Identifying and preventing known and unknown threats” and finally “Increasing an organization’s ability to see all traffic on its network”.

The workshop also served as a platform to detail the preventive solutions offered by Emtel, but also to exchange with experts from Palo Alto Networks.
