Startup Weekend returns to Mauritius on August 31!

Startup Weekend, the world’s largest incubator and entrepreneurial talent scout, is coming back to Mauritius for a crazy weekend! From Friday, August 31 to September 2, the SVICC will be the scene of 54 hours of excitement around business creation. In the meantime, you can already register for the preparation bootcamp, which will take place two weeks beforehand!

OTAM, MITIA and CCIFM in partnership with the National Computer Board (NCB) operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation (TCI) are partnering to organize the 2nd edition of Techstars Startup Weekend Mauritius. A Startup Weekend to be held from August 31 to September 2, 2018 at the 1st floor of SVICC (Swami Vivekananda International Conference Center), Pailles. This event is part of the activities of the Infotech and Innovtech 2018.

The Techstars Startup Weekend Mauritius puts Mauritius on the international map of innovation and entrepreneurship. This event, open to all, is based on the conviction that business creation is within everyone’s reach and that team spirit is the keystone of a successful project, “explains Catherine Mitaine, President of FINAM and the CCIFM.

Be innovative in 54 hours!

This 54-hour competition aims to encourage innovative entrepreneurship by placing project leaders in a real and intense situation to develop their idea.

Like a laboratory, this weekend will serve as an experimental platform on which entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs will evaluate the viability of their ideas, in a friendly atmosphere!

Note that Startup Weekend is a global initiative of American origin, created in 2007 by the eponymous association startupweekend.org, based in Seattle. Its objective is to promote innovative entrepreneurship.

Come with an idea, leave with a project!

Do you want to start an entrepreneurial adventure, but don’t know where to begin? Startup Weekend is a good place to be! During the 54-hour event, you’ll meet people from all walks of life (developers, business people, investors, students, project owners…) with whom you’ll team up, share ideas, and launch startups. People who do not have specific ideas are also welcome to join the projects presented.

Another advantage for the participants is the intensive training on business creation thanks to the free knowledge transfer from professional coaches during the whole weekend. The aim is to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, to free creativity, to open up the field of possibilities and thus to contribute to the development of the local economic fabric.

A facilitator approved by the Startup Weekend parent company will be in Mauritius to accompany the organisers and ensure that the event meets the standards.

It must be said that in Mauritius, in recent years the entrepreneurial spirit has gained ground, giving birth to several startups!

“JI am delighted to learn that we are able to make such an event a permanent fixture… We must support such initiatives that have the potential to transform the country into a Start-up Nation. This competition places candidates in a real-life situation, allowing them to bring out ideas and transform them into a business project. I would like to salute the synergy among the organizers, with in particular the support provided by OTAM, MITIA, the CCI France-Mauritius and of course the NCB which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, “The Minister of ICT, Yogida Sawmynaden, pointed out.
