The first edition of the Front-End Code Camp will take place this Saturday, July 1st

The Front-End Dev Mauritius community, in partnership with OTAM, MITIA and CCIFM, is organising its first Front-End Code Camp this weekend. The event will take place over a full day at La Turbine, Vivéa Business Park located in Moka. This tech gathering aims to bring together different patricians around workshops dedicated to web technologies (mainly HTML, CSS, and Javascipt) and connected objects.

About 100 participants are expected to attend

Registration was a great success, with over 100 participants reserving their place, so that there are no more places available! The majority of participants are students and young people between the ages of 18 and 25, who represent 60% of the total number of participants. You can find out more about the participants’ profiles on this link.

This event, which is free for participants, aims to provide a space for sharing and learning for all audiences: students, professionals or simply those who want to discover web development. This is an opportunity for participants to learn about coding, and to improve their web programming skills. This will be possible thanks to the exchanges with other professionals in order to overcome more easily the challenges related to the IT development. Participants will be able to discover practical applications on connected objects using JavaScript.

The Front-End Code Camp format

Front-End Code Camp takes the form of practical workshops based on the workings of international Front-End communities such as NodeSchool.io and FreeCodeCamp.com. The latter offer a series of online exercises for beginners, intermediate and advanced level around front-end programming languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

This first edition will also include the group Nodebots Mauritius who will demonstrate the possibilities of designing connected objects (IoT) from JavaScript using Arduino and Raspberry Pi.

Peer-organized groups will be encouraged and mentored by experts and professionals to find solutions to existing exercises on the NodeSchool.io and FreeCodeCamp.com websites. A practical workshop(Nodebots Mauritius) will also allow them to apply their JavaScript basics on physical objects (IoT).

What is NodeSchool and freeCodeCamp?

NodeSchool and FreeCodeCamp are two open source and community platforms that meet regularly and across the globe working groups. Their objectives are to raise awareness and improve the web skills of everyone.

  • NodeSchool includes more than 40 workshops of different levels ranging from basic Front-End to advanced modules revolving around JavaScript, Node.js (server-side JavaScript, MongoDB) and through intermediate modules (React, WebGL, Sass…).

  • FreeCodeCamp includes a series of exercises (Front-End, Back-End, Fullstack…), leading to a concrete project to put online (on CodePen.io or Github.com). At the end of the course, a training certificate is also available for download, proving the completion of the modules.
