These new WhatsApp features could save friendships

WhatsApp offers us two new features that could help you in your everyday social interactions.

Leave a WhatsApp group without conflicts

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing more annoying than finding yourself in the middle of a group of strangers on WhatsApp, and having to rewind the whole thread of a discussion that only half interests you. Not to mention all the notifications!

Of course, you could decide to leave the group altogether. But this is not a decision to be taken lightly, because on the famous messaging application, when you leave a group, a message visible to all its members indicates that you have deserted. This can lead to misunderstandings, arguments and even the end of one or more friendships!

But WhatsApp is finally offering a new option to remedy this. According to WABetaInfo soon, when you leave a group, nobody should be notified anymore. No more “So-and-so has left the group” messages. Now only the group administrators will be notified. This way, you can avoid any conflict, and sort out your conversations on the Meta messaging application with peace of mind.

This feature is still in development, and it has yet to be confirmed when exactly it will come into effect. However, it should arrive in the coming months… and we can’t wait.

React to messages with an emoji

Another new feature that should make your life easier. In early May, WhatsApp finally announced the arrival of feedback. These small emojis that allow you to react to a message without sending a new message to your interlocutor have become almost indispensable in recent years, especially since many other competing messengers such as Messenger and Discord already offered them. This is another new feature that could save friendships, as it will allow you to avoid leaving your interlocutors in the dark if you don’t know what to answer to their messages. So, in order to react to a WhatsApp message with an emoji, you just need to long-press the message concerned. The emojis then appear at the top of the message.

But until now, it was only possible to react with six specific emojis: thumbs up, heart, clasped hands, tears of joy, open mouth and crying face. But today, this is now history, since as Mark Zuckerberg himself has just announced via his Facebook account users will finally be able to choose the emoticon of their choice to react to a message.

From now on, when you want to react to a message, WhatsApp will give you access to the same keyboard you can already access to insert emoji in a message. You will have the choice of all the emojis available on your smartphone, which should allow you to be more creative and relevant in your reactions.

Good to know: if you need to delete an emoji reaction on WhatsApp, just long-press the message again and press the emoji you had previously selected.

WhatsApp says the update is being rolled out in some parts of the world and will be available to all users in the coming weeks and months.
