Virtual reality is now being used in many fields… including aviation! The airline Emirates has added this new technology to its website, allowing customers to immerse themselves in 3D in its planes. The airline thus becomes the first to introduce virtual reality (VR) on its digital platform.
Who says you have to fly to know what’s going on inside? Thanks to virtual reality, you can now take a guided tour of the aircraft cabin of Emirates, one of the world’s largest airlines! Experience the 3D rendering of the seats on emirates.com now, making Emirates the first airline to introduce virtual reality (VR) on its digital platform.
An immersive experience on board the planes!
You have probably already seen a 3D movie, in which virtual reality takes the spectators into an unbelievable experience. The immersive experience of Emirates’ planes is comparable! These 3D seats were made possible by a visualization engine that displays an immersive 360-degree 3D view of the interior of Emirates’ A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. This way, customers can explore their seats, the spacious cabin and the on-board products.
With the integration of this technology into its website, Emirates allows its customers to navigate through Economy, Business and First Class cabins, as well as the airline’s iconic Onboard Lounge and Shower Spa on the A380.
“We are continually investing to provide our customers with an unparalleled travel experience on board and on the ground. We also work very hard to provide our customers with a world-class digital experience. We are delighted to be the first airline in the world to introduce this cutting-edge VR technology, which offers our customers an immersive opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Emirates experience before they even get on board. In our customer usability testing, we found that customers particularly enjoyed the 3D seat and cabin models when choosing their seats,” highlighted Alex Knigge, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand (Digital).
This virtual immersion has been designed to offer an unprecedented experience to customers. High-quality 3D graphics offer an exceptional rendering close to reality.
On your helmets, get set, explore!
The immersive experience Emirates is offering is for its three-class A380, however, in the short term, the entire fleet will be included, including all configurations of A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
Note that the 360-degree 3D views of the cabins also include a virtual reality element for an even more immersive experience. Users can take advantage of this to explore the cabins hands-free and choose their seats using any VR headset, such as the Google Cardboard. This award-winning technology is compatible with all devices, without the need to install external applications or plug-ins.
To offer the best experience to its visitors, Emirates has chosen the best specialists in 3D design, earning Renacen the award for the best visionary concept at the last Crystal Cabin Awards.
Experience it from your mobile!
By logging on to emirates.com via a mobile device or with the Emirates app (for iOS and Android), you have the ability to locate your seat before checking in online using the 3D seat map. This tool allows customers to navigate from one seat to another. Potential customers can also book the seat of their choice from the 3D environment.
In addition to the new 3D cabin models, new product videos are available on the company’s website. Experience the travel experience virtually in every cabin. The videos serve as a guide, giving new customers a clear idea of all the unique features on board Emirates.
In addition, Emirates continues to conduct research with customers and frequent flyers in different regions to identify further opportunities to improve the digital user experience.
