Selection criteria

Four criteria are taken into consideration for the selection and voting.

  2. Innovation: but in a broad sense, i.e. not only “disruptive innovation” on a global level, but in the context of the Mauritian economy. It can be about products or services, management or marketing and communication strategy among others.
  3. External dynamism: The increase in international sales or a particular effort made, even recently. Foreign locations are taken into consideration, as well as international partnerships, including in sourcing.
  4. Civic commitment: humanitarian action or sponsorship, protection and respect for the environment, or time given to a socio-professional organization to defend collective interests.

A survey of 200 business leaders

In a second phase, a survey was carried out by Kantar TNS among no less than 200 Mauritian business leaders. They then vote for the nominee they consider to be the best in each criterion. Then, an overall ranking is based on the total number of votes. The latter counts for 50% of the election, while the other half comes from a jury vote. Composed of personalities from the economic world of Reunion Island, chosen by L’Eco austral among its partners of the Tecoma Award in Reunion Island, this jury is chaired by the Entrepreneur of the Year (elected during the last edition in Reunion Island).
